darji vs Morolingo: which Darija app fits you? (2026)

darji and Morolingo both teach Moroccan Darija to people who didn’t grow up speaking it, and both have a free part. They are built differently, though: Morolingo is a store app with games, Amazigh and an AI pronunciation score; darji is a web app built around short lessons and a dictionary recorded by Moroccans. Here is how they compare on things you can check yourself.

Disclosure. We make darji. Every fact about Morolingo below comes from its French App Store listing, its US App Store listing or its website, checked on 23 October 2026. darji’s facts come from our own pricing and course pages. Prices change, and App Store prices depend on your country.

Who each one is for

  • Morolingo suits you if you want a native app on iPhone, iPad or Android, short game-like sessions with hearts, a score on your pronunciation, or Amazigh as well as Darija. Its interface comes in six languages.
  • darji suits you if you speak English or French, want every word said by a Moroccan person, and want to read Darija both in the Latin letters Moroccans text in and in Arabic script. It runs in the browser on your phone or computer.

What Morolingo does well

Its ratings are high and plentiful: 4.8 out of 5 from about 4,000 ratings on the French App Store. It teaches Amazigh as well as Darija, which matters if part of your family speaks it. Its AI voice feedback gives you a number for your pronunciation after you record yourself, which some people find motivating. And it’s a real store app, with the hearts system Duolingo users know.

What darji does differently

darji is Darija only, and every voice in it is a person: no synthetic voice is ever used. Words come in Latin letters, the way Moroccans text (“3afak”, “bghit”), and in Arabic script. The speak-back mode lets you hear yourself next to the Moroccan voice instead of getting a score. darji was founded by Wissal, a Moroccan Darija teacher; the course is mapped from A1 to C1 and Pro opens the lessons as they come out.

Its limits are real too. darji isn’t in the App Store or on Google Play yet; you use it in the browser and can add it to your home screen. The interface is only in English and French. There is no Amazigh. And after the first 4 lessons, the rest needs Pro.

Choose Morolingo if…

  • you want Amazigh too;
  • you want an app from the App Store or Google Play;
  • your interface language is German, Spanish, Italian or Dutch;
  • a pronunciation score keeps you going.

Choose darji if…

  • you want every word said by a Moroccan person, never a generated voice;
  • you want both the Latin letters Moroccans text in and Arabic script;
  • you learn in English or French and like short lessons built on real situations;
  • you want a large recorded dictionary to review words by theme.

Both have a free part, so the fairest test is to try both. darji’s first lesson needs no account: start it here. For the wider picture, see our 2026 roundup of Darija apps, or the course syllabus.
