darji vs Darija School: an app or live classes? (2026)
Darija School and darji both teach Moroccan Darija online, but the main difference is easy to see: Darija School adds live group video classes with a native teacher, twice a week, to its self-study platform. darji has no live classes; it’s short lessons and a recorded dictionary you use whenever you like. Which suits you depends on whether you want a class on the calendar.
Who each one is for
- Darija School suits you if you want to speak with a teacher and other learners every week, at set times, and to study on its platform between classes. Its site is in English, French and Spanish.
- darji suits you if you want to learn on your own schedule, in short sessions on your phone, with every word recorded by a Moroccan, in English or French.

What Darija School does well
The live classes are the big one. Twice a week you speak with a native teacher and other learners, at levels from beginner to intermediate and advanced, and that kind of practice is hard to get from any app. Its learners rate it 4.6 on Trustpilot from 25 reviews. You can try the platform with a free account before paying, and its sign-up page offers a 30-day refund guarantee on paid access and says you can cancel at any time.
What darji does differently
darji has no classes and no timetable. You open a lesson when you have five minutes, hear every word from a Moroccan voice, and say it back: the speak-back mode records you so you can compare. Words come in Latin letters, the way Moroccans text, and in Arabic script. Behind the lessons sits the Dictionnaire, 3,500+ words each recorded by a Moroccan voice, to review by theme. The course is mapped from A1 to C1, and Pro opens the lessons as they come out.
What darji can’t give you is a person answering you in real time. If you need someone to correct you as you speak, a class or a tutor does that and darji doesn’t. darji is also a web app, with no App Store or Google Play listing yet.
Choose Darija School if…
- you want live classes with a teacher on a fixed weekly schedule;
- the class times (Monday evening or Sunday morning, Paris time) work for you;
- you’d like a site in Spanish, or learning in a group;
- a refund guarantee matters to you.
Choose darji if…
- you want to learn whenever you have a few minutes, with no timetable;
- you want every word recorded by a Moroccan person, never a generated voice;
- you want both the Latin letters Moroccans text in and Arabic script;
- you prefer a known monthly, yearly or one-off price.
They also work together: darji between classes for vocabulary and listening, Darija School for live speaking. darji’s first lesson needs no account: start it here. For other options, see our 2026 roundup of Darija apps or the Learn Darija guide.
